Fabulous weather over the weekend brought out all manner of wildlife. Around the house and grounds the snowdrops and lungwort were joined by the first dandelion, ground ivy and celandine flowers of the year. Winter/spring flowering heathers attracted two species of bumblebee, some small tortoiseshell and peacock butterflies, honey bees and a host of small flies. In the scrub nearby a pair on long tailed tits have been busy carrying feathers to line their nest. All the frogs, over 1000 of them, left our ponds more than a week ago leaving a mass of spawn much of which is now at the ‘comma’ stage. Single willow tit, along with two marsh tits coming to seed put out and of late a pair of yellowhammers and two or three siskins.
