A single yellowhammer male was at the seed put out today but even rarer were two house sparrows briefly on Thursday. Yesterday was a particularly good day with a sparrowhawk, a goshawk, a peregrine and a merlin with c.10 each of kite, buzzard and raven seen from the garden during a 2 hour skywatch (13.30-15.30). There were 14 house martins hawking insects around Craig Ddu and about 25 meadow pipits could be seen flitting about the Craig Ddu summit. A flock of 60 starlings flew over too. A red admiral and a small tortoiseshell were in the garden with a pair of bullfinches. To top it off down in the rhos was a female reed bunting and in the brook just 10m from me an otter.
