Mistle thrushes

I was surprised to see 30+ mistle thrushes flying around near to Dolafallen bridge – 20 July around mid day. At first I thought they were fieldfares! tho’ a tad early of course.

you quite often get post breeding flocks of mistle thrushes around this time of year Janice – especially around the hills where I think they feed on bilberry. August is a good month and I have seen up to 80 before now – although the flocks seem to be getting smaller. I had 60 up at Penrhos last september and 20+ were trapped and ringed there by Tony Cross. They were found almost all to be juveniles.
