Update from Craig Llyn

Nothing hugely exciting to report from this part of Llanwrthwl at the moment. The redstarts and flycatchers nested successfully and young green woodpeckers are active in the garden. A juvenile heron has been visiting the ponds in late evening, and two young yellowhammers have been seen in the last few days. Soprano pipistrelles have a large maternity roost in the kitchen chimney but the long eared bats seem to have moved elsewhere – occasional signs of moth wings but not as many or as regularly as last year. Heard a barn owl shrieking here for some time last night. Squirrels are being a pest but have discovered they dislike safflower seeds and millet and am putting this mix on the ground with successful results!
