Dippers @ Gilfach

This time of year is one of the best for seeing Dippers. During a BTO tetrad visit centred on Pont Marteg this morning I saw 5! There were two at the railway bridge on the reserve – one singing and the other was presumably its mate. At the confluence of the Marteg and Wye a bird sang despite being drowned out by resurfacing work on the A470. Another bird appeared and a really agressive tussle took place with the birds darting to-and-fro across the Wye. These were joined by a third bird, perhaps the bird they were fighting over! 24 species in all (average number for a winter count around here) but only 10 species on the Gilfach side of the Wye.
