(From Claire Montanaro) I wandered down to the Craig Llyn ponds late last night, and was surprised by how many newts (smooth and palmate) were visible in the water plants, even though there was some ice still on the surface.
Despite being covered in snow and ice for weeks, the plants looked very healthy.
Saw some fresh bat droppings in the garage today, near the long-eared bats’ summer roosting place, so wonder if they are over-wintering here? It has been very warm here overnight with lots of insects, which may have tempted them out.
