Harlequin Ladybirds

(From Richard Knight). I took the picture of this harlequin ladybird in June just south of Glascwm up on the heather tops.  As far as I know there have, as yet, been no records of the harlequin within the RxN study area but as it is a fast spreading invasive I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before it colonizes our area in a big way. The harlequin comes in a variety of colour forms but this picture is of a fairly typical form.

Loook out next year an in summers to come in the Rhayader area and claim a first!

I saw a harlequin ladybird at Gilfach last week. Judging from the FSC ladybird field guide it was an f. succinea – fitted the drawing exactly.
