The Llanwrthwl swifts gradually declined in numbers from 60 screaming over the village at the end of July to just 20 by the 6th August. Yesterday that reduced to 10 and tonight there were none. The last one seen enter a nest site under the gable end was on July 25th. Today there has been 150 house martins, 50 swallows and a couple of swifts heading south. These swifts and those over the coming few weeks are presumably on migration and not our local birds?
